Job summary

WH Wheeling Hospital Inc. is seeking a Laboratory leader to oversee the hospital laboratory operations and serve as the Blood Bank Section Lead. The role requires WV High Complexity Testing licensure and at least five years of clinical laboratory experience.

The position involves setting staffing needs, updating policies, coordinating schedules, and participating in budgets and quality initiatives across all shifts in a hospital laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a B.S. in Medical Technology or related field.
• HCTP license required in WV for High Complexity Testing.
• Five years of clinical laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily operations of the Laboratory and serves as Section Lead for Blood Bank.
• Assesses department needs for services and staffing requirements.
• Monitors yearly competencies and participates in performance improvement activities.
• Manages staff meetings, schedules, and policy updates; ensures proper staffing.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE

• Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology OR Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology (Medical Laboratory Science) or related field such as Microbiology, Biology, or Chemistry
• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided:

WV: High Complexity Testing Personnel (HCTP) License issued by the WV Department of Health

Experience

• Five (5) previous years of clinical laboratory experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversees daily operations of the Laboratory at the hospital and also serves as the Section Lead for the Blood Bank.
• Determines the department’s organizational needs in terms of services offered and staffing requirements
• Responsible for monitoring yearly competencies
• Participates in all staff meetings and projects/performances improvement activities
• Responsible for departmental schedules
• Responsible for updating current laboratory policies and implementing new policies and procedures
• Responsible for the scheduling of personnel to fill in for vacancies or filling in for the vacancy themselves
• Required to work various shifts
• Participates in the budget process and monitoring of expenses
• Serves as a positive role model
• Maintains a positive and profession attitude at all times

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to be on feet for extended periods of time
• Ability to life, push, or pull 40lbs
• Ability to work in a fast paced, high stress environment
• Ability to work all 3 shifts as required

• Hospital based Clinical Laboratory setting
