Job summary

HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital is seeking an IRF PAI Coordinator to lead the IRF-PAI completion and submission process in line with CMS regulations. You will partner with physicians, nursing, therapy, and case management to ensure accurate documentation and compliance.

The role emphasizes collaboration, data quality, and regulatory awareness, with responsibilities spanning audits, education, and readiness for surveys and accreditation. On-site hospital position in the Charleston area.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of clinical experience in inpatient rehabilitation, acute care, case management, utilization review, quality management, or related healthcare setting preferred.
  • Previous experience with IRF-PAI, rehabilitation documentation, MDS, utilization management, or quality programs strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of CMS regulations, IRF PPS, rehabilitation quality measures, and documentation standards preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the completion, review, and submission of all IRF-PAI assessments within required regulatory timeframes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to obtain and validate patient assessment data.
  • Review clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with CMS guidelines.
  • Ensure appropriate coding and documentation to support reimbursement and quality reporting initiatives.
  • Monitor and communicate regulatory changes affecting IRF-PAI requirements and rehabilitation documentation standards.
  • Educate clinical staff on documentation requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct audits and quality reviews to identify opportunities for improvement and promote compliance.
  • Track and report quality indicators, functional outcomes, and performance metrics.
  • Assist with survey readiness and support accreditation and regulatory activities.
  • Serve as a clinical resource regarding rehabilitation assessment processes and regulatory requirements.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The IRF PAI Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, completing, and submitting the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI) in accordance with CMS regulations and organizational standards. Working collaboratively with physicians, nursing, therapy, case management, and leadership teams, this position ensures accurate clinical documentation, supports quality initiatives, and promotes compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

    • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing or Rehab Therapy
    • (RN) Registered Nurse, or (OTR) Occupational Therapist Registered, or (OT) Occupational Therapist, or (LPT) Licensed Physical Therapist, or (SLP) Speech‑Language Pathologist
    • Minimum of two years of clinical experience in inpatient rehabilitation, acute care, case management, utilization review, quality management, or related healthcare setting preferred.
    • Previous experience with IRF-PAI, rehabilitation documentation, MDS, utilization management, or quality programs strongly preferred.
    • Knowledge of CMS regulations, IRF Prospective Payment System (PPS), rehabilitation quality measures, and documentation standards preferred.
