About the team and position

We’re looking for an Environmental, Health and Safety professional to join our EHS team and support our mission to continue to build strong environmental compliance initiatives and health and safety programs. The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of the organization's environmental programs and initiatives with a primary focus on compliance activities relating to environmental regulations and permits. The Environmental Coordinator plays a main role in the collection and management of environmental data, operational data, and other records required for compliance and regulatory reporting.

The Environmental Coordinator collaborates with cross functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into daily operations and contributes to fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

What you’ll be doing

  • Gather information from facilities and prepare environmental reports, such as Tier II, air compliance reports, waste reports, and wastewater discharge reports.
  • Review and synthesize environmental plans, such as Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC), stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP), and waste contingency plans.
  • Manage environmental data including but not limited to air emissions, wastewater, chemical usage, and waste generation.
  • Prepare and facilitate environmental training.
  • Review and summarize environmental and health and safety regulatory and legislative policy proposals.
  • Provide general environmental and health and safety compliance support to operating locations, including on site as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the EHS staff in a dynamic environment.
  • Perform multiple projects within schedule expectations.
  • Support Senior Manager, EHS to effectively manage projects.
  • Communicate with Carvana employees, consultants, vendors, and contractors

What you should know

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 3 or more years of related experience in environmental compliance.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated competence applying for, implementing, and managing environmental permits.
  • Working knowledge of environmental legislation including RCRA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and SARA Title III.
  • Ability to dig into regulations and technical documents and convey information and requirements to non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to multitask, set priorities, maintain flexibility, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to travel as needed, up to 25%.
