Position Summary
Collaboratively coordinate and deliver university accessibilityservices and supports for students with disabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish and supervise delivery and database documentation ofessential services to students with disabilities, includingreasonable accommodations to support equal opportunity in URIacademic and co-curricular programs and services.
- Assess, verify and facilitate student requests for services viaremote and in person meetings.
- Conduct learning support services for students with mental healthdisabilities, learning disabilities, attentiondeficit/hyperactivity disorders, autism spectrum disorders andother documented conditions.
- Hire, train, and supervise student employees as needed.
- Advise individual students and student groups concerningdisability, diversity, civil rights, services, andself-advocacy.
- Assist and advise the Assistant Dean/Director in guiding Universitydepartments regarding accessibility options in courses, programs,and services.
- Assist and advise University departments in providing services tostudents with disabilities.
- Appropriately refer faculty and staff regarding disability-relatedoptions.
- Provide information regarding postsecondary transition for localtransition collaboratives, at transition forums and events. Provideguidance to prospective transitioning students andtheirfamilies.
- Participate in Disability, Access, and Inclusion and Dean ofStudents Office Social Justice and Inclusion initiatives.
- In collaboration with Housing and Residential Life, managecommunication with students seeking accommodations within thehousing environment to facilitate the delivery of consistent andaccurate information.
- Liaise with and advise IT Teaching and Learning Services to ensureonline accessibility of Brightspace or other online course system,develop training modules and assessment strategies for faculty, andsupport students in their ability to access online courses.
- Oversee the Annual Disability, Access, and Inclusion response forURI Commencement, i.e. develop and maintain an accommodationregistration system for Commencement visitors, coordinate staffingand other supports to ensure accessible commencement sites for theweekend of events, coordinate distribution of adaptive equipment asnecessary.
- Collaborate with Transportation & Parking Services to delivermobility support systems such as disability transportation andparking systems; including liaison with Enrollment Services toensure accessibility of classrooms as needed.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Advise Disability, Access, and Inclusion personnel in current bestpractices.
- Represent the office on committees and at University events.
- Perform additional duties as required.
