Job summary

UT-Battelle is seeking a Cooling Systems Engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory to oversee cooling systems for SNS and HFIR. You will provide systems-level engineering for piping, pumps, and heat exchangers, and perform hydraulic and CFD analysis to guide design decisions.

The role requires a BS in mechanical engineering with 5+ years of experience, and familiarity with AFT Fathom. On-site work with a focus on safety and quality is essential.

Qualifications

  • BS in mechanical engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience.
  • Experience with industrial cooling systems, pumps, heat exchangers, piping.
  • Knowledge of Affinity Laws and pump/fan design applications.
  • Experience with AFT Fathom software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide systems-level engineering for piping, materials, heat exchanger sizing, and pump selection.
  • Perform hydraulic and CFD analysis to evaluate performance and guide design.
  • Assess operational data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Review cooling components and support design changes per procedures.
  • Monitor operations and direct adjustments to meet SNS/HFIR goals.
  • Be willing to learn new skills and train others.
  • Assist with design changes and maintenance coordination; occasional off-hours coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, health and quality requirements.
  • Align with ORNL core values and promote a respectful workplace.
