Job Description
Course Summary

Young chefs will learn the basics of cooking and baking through hands-on experiences that build confidence, creativity, and kitchen skills. Students will explore simple recipes, food preparation techniques, nutrition, and kitchen safety while creating delicious treats and savory snacks. The session concludes with a Family Recipe Showcase where students share their favorite creations and culinary accomplishments.

Expected Hours (times vary):

Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays: 2:15PM-3:45PM

Wednesdays: 1:00PM-2:30PM

Fridays: 3:30pm-4:30PM

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead engaging, age-appropriate cooking and baking activities.
  • Teach basic food preparation, measuring, mixing, and baking techniques.
  • Promote kitchen safety, cleanliness, and proper food handling practices.
  • Introduce students to nutrition and healthy eating concepts.
  • Encourage teamwork, creativity, and confidence in the kitchen.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain cooking supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor student behavior and participation.
  • Coordinate and prepare activities for the end-of-session Family Recipe Showcase.
  • Communicate professionally with program staff, students, and families.
  • Follow all program policies, safety procedures, and attendance requirements.
Preferred Experiences
  • Experience in culinary arts, cooking, baking, nutrition, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children in educational, camp, or enrichment settings

WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT:
Active classroom and playground environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents and the display screen of various office equipment and machines;
  • Ability to conduct verbal conversation and or training in English and, possibly, a designated language; Hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels);
  • Sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk; Sit for sustained periods of time;
  • Lift up to 20 or more pounds; Carry up to 20 or more pounds;
  • Exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation, shoulder abduction and adduction, elbow flexion and extension, shoulder extension and flexion, back lateral flexion, hip flexion and extension and knee flexion;
  • Operate office machines and equipment in a safe and effective manner;
  • Manual dexterity necessary to operate computer keyboard at the required speed and accuracy; and Conduct frequent repetitive arm, hand and body motion.
