Job summary

WestCana is seeking a Casual Cook to support residents in a Long Term Care facility located in Agassiz, BC. The role focuses on preparing meals with attention to appearance, taste, and dietary needs, while maintaining safety and budget considerations.

Ideal candidates will have current cook qualifications, healthy communication in English, and strong interpersonal skills. Vaccination proof and a criminal record check are required upon hire and periodically thereafter.

Qualifications

• Cook must have current qualification as a cook with some experience in a volume food preparation environment.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to organize work and work under strict time constraints.
• Satisfactory proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
• Criminal record check required upon hire and every 5 years thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food that meets or exceeds appearance, taste, and quality expectations for residents, families, and clients.
• Plans and monitors daily and special event menu plans to meet dietary needs while staying within approved budgets.
• Implements inventory control to maximize savings and minimize waste.
• Ensures all phases of food preparation meet health and safety requirements (e.g., Community Care Facility Act, WHMIS, WCB, provincial standards).
• Follows all safety rules and safe work procedures at all times.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Positions/Shifts:

• Wage: $29.72 per hour
• Location of Work: 1525 Mackay Crescent, Agassiz BC V0M 1A3

Cook Must Haves:

• Current qualification(s) as a cook with some experience in a volume food preparation environment.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to organize work and work under strict time constraints.
• Satisfactory proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
• Passes and complies with Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check upon hire and every 5 years thereafter.

CookResponsibilities:

• Prepares food that meets or exceeds the appearance, taste, and quality expectations of the residents, families and clients.
• Prepares and/or monitors the preparation of daily and special event menu plans to ensure individual dietary needs and standards for dietary care are met or exceeded and costs remain within approved budget allocations.
• Implements and maintains inventory control systems to maximize savings and minimize waste.
• Ensuring all phases of food preparation meets or exceeds health and safety requirements i.e. Community Care Facility Act, WHMIS, WCB, provincial safety standards etc.
• All safety rules and safe work procedures are adhered to at all times.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
