Job summary

WestCana invites applicants for a Cook to support residents in Independent Living in Vancouver, BC. This casual shift role focuses on preparing meals with attention to appearance, taste, quality, and dietary needs for elderly residents.

The successful candidate will hold current cook qualifications, read and communicate in English, and manage time under busy service periods while maintaining safety standards and health regulations. Salary is $24.15 per hour.

Qualifications

• Current qualification as a cook with experience in a volume food preparation environment.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to organize work and work under strict time constraints.
• Satisfactory proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
• Passes and complies with Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check upon hire and every 5 years thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food that meets or exceeds the appearance, taste, and quality expectations of residents, families and clients.
• Prepares and/or monitors daily and special event menu plans to ensure dietary needs are met and costs stay within budget.
• Implements inventory control systems to maximize savings and minimize waste.
• Ensures all phases of food preparation meet health and safety requirements (CCF Act, WHMIS, WCB, provincial standards).
• All safety rules and safe work procedures are adhered to at all times.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Positions/Shifts:

• Shift: Casuals
• Wage: $24.15per hour
• Location of Work: 2835 Sophia St, Vancouver BC V5T 4V2

Cook Must Haves:

• Current qualification(s) as a cook with some experience in a volume food preparation environment.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to organize work and work under strict time constraints.
• Satisfactory proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
• Passes and complies with Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check upon hire and every 5 years thereafter.

CookResponsibilities:

• Prepares food that meets or exceeds the appearance, taste, and quality expectations of the residents, families and clients.
• Prepares and/or monitors the preparation of daily and special event menu plans to ensure individual dietary needs and standards for dietary care are met or exceeded and costs remain within approved budget allocations.
• Implements and maintains inventory control systems to maximize savings and minimize waste.
• Ensuring all phases of food preparation meets or exceeds health and safety requirements i.e. Community Care Facility Act, WHMIS, WCB, provincial safety standards etc.
• All safety rules and safe work procedures are adhered to at all times.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
