Job summary

ILLINI BLUFFS CUSD 327 SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a cook to provide students with nutritious meals for up to 5.5 hours per day. Duties include food prep, serving, and maintaining a clean kitchen in compliance with health standards.

The role requires a high school diploma and the pursuit of an Illinois Sanitation Certificate. The cook will manage meal service, assist with breakfast and lunch, and ensure proper food handling and safety throughout the shift.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Will pursue and obtain a State of Illinois Sanitation Certificate.
  • Must be familiar with food preparation including appliances and recipes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food for full menu meal and ala carte according to menus and portions.
  • Handle, carry and serve food to students.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, equipment and appliances.
  • Wash dishes and service areas; wash and store wares.
  • Assist in cleaning of trays, tables and cafeteria.
  • Observe sanitation standards and health regulations.
  • Assist with breakfasts and lunches as needed.
  • Report equipment repairs to supervisor.

Job description

Cook - Up to 5.5 Hours Per Day

To provide students daily with a wholesome, nutritious Class "A" lunch, as determined by the National School Lunch Program.

DUTIES
  • Prepare food for full menu meal and ala carte' according to menus, special dietary or nutritional requirements, and number of portions to be served.
  • Handle, carry and serve food to students.
  • Ensure that there are adequate trays and utensils for students.
  • Retrieve/store items from storeroom, cooler, or freezer
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen including equipment and appliances.
  • Wash service area, dishes, trays, pots/pans by hand, with sprayer and industrial dishwasher.
  • Dry and store kitchen wares
  • Clean and inspect equipment and appliances
  • Sweep and mop floors.
  • Help maintain inventory levels of food products.
  • Stores food properly and safely marking date and item.
  • Comply with all county health rules and regulations.
  • Communicate with the students regarding food selection.
  • Report any necessary equipment repair and maintenance to supervisor.
  • Wash dishes and utensils, cleans kitchen waste baskets, and sweeps and mops kitchen floor daily.
  • Assist in cleaning of trays and tables service during mealtimes.
  • Assist in storing all trays and tables service during mealtimes.
  • Clean the cafeteria and kitchen area daily.
  • Comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards.
  • Observe proper food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Responsible for having towels washed weekly.
  • Assist with the preparation and services of both breakfasts and lunches in a quick and pleasant manner.
  • Assume responsibility for food preparation as assigned by the supervisor, including but not limited to baking, meats, vegetables, salads, fruits, desserts, condiments, gravies, and sauces.
  • Complete requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for the lunch ticket program in their building.
  • Exhibit regular attendance at work.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Will pursue and obtain a State of Illinois Sanitation Certificate.
  • Must be familiar with food preparation including appliances, recipes, etc.
  • Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  • Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
SCHEDULING

Hours, terms and conditions of employment shall be established at the time of employment or reemployment. The schedule is subject to change with district demands in compliance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Terms Of Employment

The work year is established by the school board annually in accordance with state law, and workday requirements for the cook coincide with the number of staff attendance days (180), plus a few extra days before school starts as determined by the Director of School Nutrition.

Starting Salary:

$17.00
