Job summary

Dunlap School District #323 at Hickory Grove Elementary School is seeking a School Cook to support daily meal service. The position is full-time, 5 days a week, 5.75 hours per day, and pays $16.50 per hour.

You will assist in meal preparation, ensure food safety, process student and staff payments, and help maintain a sanitary, organized kitchen under the Head Cook and Director of Food Services.

Qualifications

• Experience or ability to assist in school meal preparation and service.
• Ability to maintain sanitary kitchen practices and follow safety guidelines.
• Experience collecting payments for meals is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties for food preparation as assigned by Head Cook.
• Cleans utensils, equipment and work areas to maintain sanitary conditions.
• Collects payments daily for meals from students and staff.
• Attends training at the start of each school year to ensure compliance with USDA meal requirements.
• Complies with food safety, wardrobe, handwashing, and hair net rules.

Job description

This position is 5 days a week, 5.75 hours a day,, $16.50/hr.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Food Services
Position Objective: The Cook assists in the implementation of the assigned school meal program.

Essential Functions:

• Performs various duties for food preparation efficiently and timely as assigned by the Head Cook
• Cleans utensils, equipment and storage, food preparation and serving areas daily for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions, as assigned by the Head Cook
• Collects payments daily on food items from students and staff for the purpose of completing transactions and/or securing funds
• Attends training at the start of each school year to monitor students' food choices daily for the purpose of meeting mandated meal component requirements and ensuring adequate nutrition for USDA meal reimbursements. Failure to comply could result in loss of reimbursement from the USDA
• Complies with all food safety requirements, including wardrobe, handwashing, and hair net requirements

• Education level and knowledge sufficient to meet performance requirements of position

• Physical Demands: Bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, standing for prolonged periods of time, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity
• Environmental Conditions: The work is performed primarily indoors; however, outside work is required on occasion. Travel between buildings may be a requirement.
