Washington City Mission is seeking a full-time cook/shift leader to prep and serve meals, assist in safe kitchen operations, and report to the Food Services Manager.

You will work alongside residents and volunteers, plan menus, and prepare meals for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, while ensuring proper food handling and safety. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 1+ year cooking experience, ServSafe certification, and a heart for ministry.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 1+ year cooking experience.
• ServSafe certification or sanitation coursework with local health department.
• Additional coursework in food service or culinary arts preferred.

Responsabilités

• Prepare and cook shift appropriate meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner).
• Make prep lists and prep for next meal.
• Work with residents assigned to kitchen.
• Properly use, clean and store equipment.
• Put away orders and donations; ensure proper food handling and storage.
• Assist with menu planning.
• Observe health and safety standards per Washington County Health Department, USDA and OSHA.
• Take and report meal counts daily.
• Other duties as assigned.

This is a great full-time cook/shift leader position typically with 2 weekends off per month and daytime work hours.

The cook/shift leader is generally scheduled for 8 hours between 7 AM to 6 PM.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Full-time position responsible to prep and serve meals and participate in safe kitchen operations while reporting to the Food Services Manager.

Work alongside residents/volunteers in planning, preparing and serving meals within assigned shift (breakfast, lunch and/or dinner).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare and cook shift appropriate meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner).
• Make prep lists and execute prep for the next meal.
• Work alongside residential guests assigned to kitchen:
• Properly use, clean and store equipment.
• Put away orders and donations; ensure proper food handling and storage.
• Assist with menu planning.
• Observe established health and safety standards and procedures, including those of Washington County Health Department, USDA and OSHA.
• Take and report meal counts daily.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Christian with a ministry mindset, interested in ministering to the poor and homeless.
• Proper food handling, preparation, knowledge of cooking terms and techniques.
• Able to cook tasty meals and follow instructions.
• Good eye-hand motor skills: precise, careful, and safety conscious.
• Computer literate, versed in internet web searching, email communications.
• Good math skills as applicable to cooking.
• Interpersonal skills, able to clearly communicate verbally and promote teamwork.
• Able to work with diverse groups of people, treating all with dignity and respect.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of 12-steps/recovery/mental illness preferred.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or GED*One+ year previous cooking experience.
• Servsafe certified or courses completed in sanitation with local health department.
• Additional coursework in food service or culinary arts preferred.
