JEFFERSON COUNTY SD 509J FOOD SERVICES in Madras, Oregon is seeking a Cook's Helper for the After School Meal Program to assist the cook with food production, meal serving, and kitchen cleaning at Warm Springs K-8 Academy. Starting date September 28, 2026, with daily hours from 9:45 AM to 4:00 PM.

No experience required; on-the-job training provided. Must have or obtain a Food Handler’s Card and be able to lift 40 lbs. Wage range $17.97–$22.59 with benefits included.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications include on-the-job training in basic food production and cafeteria operations.
• Current Food Handler’s Card or ability to obtain one upon hire.
• No experience required; skills learned on the job.
• Able to lift, push and pull 40lbs continually.

POSITION SUMMARY The Cooks Helper under supervision of an assistant cook, head cook or a supervisor the employee performs the routine duties involved in the production and serving of food and in cleaning kitchen facilities and equipment as assigned. This is the entry and general helper level in the school meals program. Employees in this class receive on-the-job training in the basic food production and cafeteria operations from an assistant cook, head cook or a supervisor.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE (Minimum Qualifications)

• Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described within this job description
• Current Food Handler’s Card or ability to obtain one upon hire.
• No experience required. Skills and abilities are learned on the job.
• Able to lift, push and pull 40lbs on a continual basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of national school lunch and school breakfast programs.
• Experience in the foodservice industry.

COMPENSATION

• Wage Schedule:$17.97 - $22.59
