Job summary

Hospice Austin is seeking a part-time Cook at Christopher House in Austin, TX. The Cook will lead food service activities, ensure compliance with dietary policies, and prepare meals according to room service orders.

This role requires attention to detail, cleanliness, and adherence to regulatory standards. We are looking for an individual with one year of food service experience, familiarity with basic office software, and a City of Austin Food Service Handlers Certification.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic computer usage.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
• At least 1 year of food service experience, preferably in a medical or institutional setting.
• Current City of Austin Food Service Handlers Certification Card required.

Responsibilities

• Follow established dietary policies and keep the kitchen clean and compliant.
• Assist with meal preparation and delivery per room service orders.
• Maintain logs for cleaning schedules, temperatures, and inventory.
• Assist with ordering groceries and supplies and complete related paperwork.
• Provide training to new kitchen staff on procedures and protocols.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Places orders for groceries and supplies; completes purchase orders and required paperwork.
• Ensure reports are completed and submitted to regulatory and community agencies.
• Provides training and orientation to new kitchen staff in established kitchen procedures & protocols.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Cook is responsible for providing quality food services and acting as a lead worker.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

REPORTS TO: Chief Clinical Officer

SUPERVISES: None

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

All comments, actions and behaviors have a direct effect on the public's perception of Hospice Austin. Interactions with patients, family members, physicians, referral sources, visitors, co-workers, etc. must be in a manner that is courteous, respectful, cooperative and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork and positive relations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Follows established dietary policies and procedures; keeps kitchen clean in compliance with regulations.
• Inspects food inventory on regular basis and disposes of out-of-date items.
• Prepares meals according to room service orders; delivers meals within the policy timeframe; completes paperwork related to meals served.
• Washes dishes and cleans up after meal preparation.
• Maintains daily, weekly & monthly cleaning logs, as well as temperature logs on refrigerator and dishwasher.
• Maintains appropriate inventories of food and beverages.
• Places orders for groceries and supplies; completes purchase orders and required paperwork.
• Ensure reports are completed and submitted to regulatory and community agencies.
• Provides training and orientation to new kitchen staff in established kitchen procedures & protocols.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
