Position Summary

This Cook prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, with established policies and procedures, ensuring patient safety. Assists in all preparation of patient, family, and employee meals, helps deliver and take orders as needed. May be directed by the Director of Culinary.

Essential Job Functions

  • Follows standardized recipes, portioning, menu extensions, and presentation standards. Completes and utilizes daily production worksheets and waste log sheets. Tastes completed meals to ensure quality.
  • Monitors temperature of hot and cold foods during preparation and service to meet established temperature goals.
  • In the absence of the Director of Culinary, inspects food products and supplies upon delivery. Supervises and assists in storage of supplies and food products.
  • Notifies the Director of Culinary about food, supplies, or equipment needs. Reports equipment breakdowns and unsafe conditions.
  • Complies with health and sanitation regulations, as evidenced through audits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one (1) year food service experience in a healthcare dietary setting preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year culinary/cooking background.
  • Knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes, diet orders, and work assignments.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including during emergencies.
  • Patient and tolerant attitude towards staff, patients, and families.

Education Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Education in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets is a plus.

Physical Demands

Ability to stand and walk intermittently, reach, stoop, bend, lift, carry, and manipulate food products, supplies, and equipment. Capable of working with chemicals and lifting 50-75 pounds.

Background checks and drug screening are required.

Job Type: Part-Time Cook

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shifts
  • Afternoon/Evening
  • Weekend Rotation

Location: Fahrney Keedy Senior Living Community

Schedule: Shift Vary, Weekend Availability Required. 2-3 days/week Prep Cook, 0-1 days/week Relief Cook as needed.

Salary: $18.00-20.00 per hour
