Position Summary

This Cook prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, with established policies and procedures, ensuring patient safety. Assists in all preparation of patient, family, and employee meals, helps deliver and take orders as needed. May be directed by the Director of Culinary.

Essential Job Functions
  • Follow standardized recipes, portioning, menu extensions, and presentation standards. Complete and utilize daily production worksheets and waste log sheets. Taste completed meals to ensure quality.
  • Monitor the temperature of hot and cold foods during preparation and service to meet established temperature goals before steam table transfer and throughout meal service.
  • In the absence of the Director of Culinary, check and inspect food products and supplies upon delivery. Supervise and assist in storage of supplies and food products.
  • Notify the Director of Culinary of food, supplies, or equipment needs. Report equipment breakdowns and unsafe conditions.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local health and sanitation regulations, and department sanitation procedures, as evidenced by local health department and third-party audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary.
Qualifications
  • Minimum one (1) year of food service experience in a healthcare dietary setting is desired. At least one (1) year of culinary/cooking background.
  • Preferred: Minimum one (1) year working in food and beverage operations.
  • General knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes, diet orders, and work assignments. Willing to work flexible hours, including during emergencies. Patience and tolerance towards staff, patients, and families.
Education Requirements
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Additional education in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets is a plus.

Physical Demands

The Cook stands and walks intermittently throughout the day, reaching, stooping, bending, lifting, carrying, and manipulating various food products, dietary supplies, and equipment. Must be able to work with chemicals/cleaning agents and lift/carry 50 to 75 pounds.

*Background checks and drug screening will be conducted.

Location: Fahrney Keedy Senior Living Community

Schedule: Shift Varies, Weekend Availability Required. 2-3 days/week Prep Cook, 0-1 days/week Relief Cook as needed.

Salary: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
