BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager and Food Service Director, the cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals for students and staff. This role also includes ensuring food items are distributed efficiently and maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment.

Job Requirements
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT LIMITED TO):
  • Prepares large-scale meals by planning cooking schedules based on menu requirements.
  • Performs and oversees a variety of cooking tasks, including the preparation and cooking of meats, vegetables, salads, and other foods using diverse methods.
  • Maintains records and requisitions supplies as needed.
  • Process student and adult payments on school meal accounts.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen area and equipment after each use.
  • Completes a minimum of 4 hours of annual continual education/training.
  • Serve as Kitchen Manager during absences as needed, including supervising kitchen staff in routine food preparation, service, and cleaning tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma (required).
  • Cooking and food preparation experience, (required; 2 years preferred).
  • Serve-Safe Certification (required).
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds frequently.
  • Capable of performing physical tasks efficiently, including extended periods of standing, twisting, and bending; occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, or crouching required.
  • Proficient in quickly and accurately fulfilling customer orders and requests.
  • Skilled in using the Point-of-Service (POS) system for daily operations, inventory tracking, and reporting.
  • Able to reconcile daily income sheets and make bank deposits while filling in for Kitchen Manager.
  • Enjoys working with children and ability to maintain positive interactions with students and staff.
  • Demonstrates a professional, positive, and team-oriented attitude.
  • STATUS: Part‑time (17.5 hours per week; 3.5 hours per day) - Starting 2026‑27 School Year
  • SALARY: per Food Service – Teamsters Local Union contract - Salary Range $22.66 - $23.34
