Job description

This position is for Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) at Fort Drum, New York. FMWR includes Child and Youth Services, Business Recreation, and Support Services, which enable Soldier readiness, support the resiliency and well-being of Soldiers and Families.

Duties
  • Performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing, such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh or canned vegetables.
  • Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, or breading.
  • Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources.
  • Cleans, stores, and maintains all equipment and work areas after each use and cleans other work areas and equipment, such as worktables, floors, walk-in refrigerators, etc., on an established cleaning schedule.
Requirements
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with Army Regulation 215-3.
  • This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1/NACI background investigation.
  • An employer referred pre-employment physical examination is required.
  • Must be willing to accept intermittent, on-call employment.
  • Management reserves the right to reassign employees to other facilities.
  • Work schedule will be irregular. The incumbent will be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or unique events.
Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Experience preparing basic food dishes, storing foods to prevent spoiling, etc., AND
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, particularly standard recipes, and detailed cooking instructions, AND
  • Ability to operate, disassemble, and clean basic food service equipment such as griddles, broilers, and food grinders, AND
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, etc.) to measure ingredients in a recipe, AND
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds, AND
  • Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance of others, AND
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
