Job summary

The Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains is seeking a part-time Cook to oversee the club's kitchen and café across locations. You will handle food orders, food preparation, cooking, serving, and ensure cleanliness and safety compliance.

This role requires a High School Diploma, food service experience, and a willingness to work Monday through Friday during the school year and summer hours. You will support nutrition-minded menus and participate in grants and events.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with youth Preschool through 12th Grade preferred.
• Availability Monday–Friday during school year and extended summer hours.
• Experience in commercial kitchen and food service.
• Able to follow Food Safe training and safety protocols.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Oversee kitchen and café operations including food orders, preparation, cooking and serving.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions post meals.
• Assist with program development for Café and nutritious menus.
• Support multiple Club locations and special events as needed.
• Contribute to grants programs and site operations as assigned.
• Attend weekly 1:1 meetings with supervisor and seasonal team meetings.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

TITLE: Cook

REPORTS TO: Chief Facilities & Safety Officer

CLASSIFIED: Part-Time,Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Milbank, SD

MISSION: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for overseeing the kitchen and café including food orders, food preparation, cooking, serving, and ensuring cleanliness post meal and ongoing. Responsible for ensuring the kitchen meets licensing and health requirements.

JOB DUTIES:

• Responsible for preparation of Club Meals, Breakfast, Lunch, Snack and/or Supper, as needed.
• Responsible for unloading pallets and food orders.
• Must complete Food Safe training and ensure kitchen is up to standard.
• Responsible for keeping the kitchen and café clean and sanitized, including dishes.
• Assist with program development for Café and creating nutritional menus.
• Will assist as needed with all special events at the Club.
• Assist in Primary location, with support provided to other Club locations as needed.
• May support food transportation and food service across sites as necessary, using a Club owned vehicle.
• Be prepared to assist with meal preparation and kitchen operations at alternate locations when needed.
• Lead the implementation and successful completion of grants programs as assigned.
• Weekly one on one meeting with supervisor and required team meetings seasonally.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with youth of ages Preschool through 12th Grade is preferred.
• Must be available Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 7:00pm during the school year and from 7:00am to 6:00pm during the summer.
• Experience working in commercial kitchen.
• Experience working in food service.
• Must be able to understand, implement, and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club trainings and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
• Must be able to model and reinforce the Boys and Girls Club values while working with youth.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe, interact, and communicate with youth, staff, volunteers, etc. at the Club to ensure safety of the space and others, provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals.
• Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time throughout a shift.
• Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC, telephone, copier, etc.
• Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds in order to unload and stock food orders.
• This position is considered to be safety-sensitive.
