Job summary

Ithaca College is hiring a Cook II to accurately prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold items for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and catered events. The role emphasizes adherence to recipes, production guidelines, and food safety.

The incumbent will work under the Lead Sous Chef and report to the Executive Chef, joining a diverse team on Ithaca College Dining Services. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 2+ years of food preparation experience.
• Knowledge of standard cooking methods and food handling procedures.
• Food safety and allergen awareness required.
• Ability to read and follow written/electronic recipes.
• Strong interpersonal skills and guest service focus.
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, overtime and some holidays.
• Proficient knife skills; will complete a cooking demonstration during interview.

Responsibilities

• Learn and adhere to Ithaca College Dining Services food preparation guidelines.
• Prepare food independently following recipes and guidelines.
• Ensure dining hall kitchen and workstations are stocked for each meal.
• Safely use knives and kitchen equipment (ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers).
• Taste, read menus, estimate food requirements, and record production data.
• Collaborate with staff to requisition product, supplies and equipment.
• Clean and sanitize stations and equipment; follow safety rules.
• Attend allergy, foodborne illness, and safety training sessions.
• Demonstrate inclusive conduct and contribute to a diverse campus community.
