Job summary

Ada County Juvenile Services is seeking a Cook I to prepare meals on a large scale, assist in keeping accurate production records, and follow HACCP procedures for safe food handling. The role requires basic math, attention to sanitation, and the ability to work with a diverse resident population.

The position involves following standardized recipes, maintaining inventory, and adhering to schedules while ensuring meals meet nutritional standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of standard high school/trade school course with instruction in institutional cookery or equivalent.
• Minimum six (6) months experience in cooking on a large scale.
• Knowledge of basic math, cooking terms and measurement.
• Knowledge of health and sanitation regulations related to food service.
• Skill in the preparation of meals.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Ability to keep daily records.
• Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to clean the kitchen and equipment in an institutional setting.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meals and sack lunches for residents.
• Follows standardized recipes and production records to control costs and meet nutrient requirements.
• Documents daily production sheets and tray counts for all programs and meals.
• Follows HACCP procedures in purchasing, receiving, storing, preparing, cooking, serving, and reheating.
• Maintains proper storage temperatures for refrigerated, frozen, and dry goods.
• Cleans and sanitizes kitchen area and equipment.
• Counts and secures potentially dangerous kitchen utensils.
• Attends daily staff briefings and stocks storeroom.
• Assists in freight deliveries.
