POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Cook I, you’ll be at the heart of our food court-style restaurants, preparing delicious meals and serving guests with warmth and energy. This is our entry-level cooking position, perfect for those ready to dive into the world of professional cooking. You’ll learn the basics of food prep, station operation, and kitchen teamwork while helping create “a day worth repeating” for every guest. This position may provide housing and has an estimated start date in December 2026.

WAGE:

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of Arapahoe Basin’s hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, and responsibilities. The range listed is just one component of Arapahoe Basin’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits. Food and Beverage cooks are eligible for a staging program that relates to applicable pay based on experience. See the staging requirements below. Hourly pay range: $20.50 - $22.50/hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food.
• Wash and peel fresh fruits and vegetables.
• Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients.
• Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist.
• Operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, fryers, and other kitchen equipment.
• Test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently.
• Set-up and break down workstation.
• Serve food in proper portions onto proper receptacles.
• Wash and disinfect kitchen area, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.
• Check and ensure the correctness of the temperature of appliances and food.
• A-Basin loves the environment! Help us do our part with waste removal, including landfill trash, recycling, and composting.
• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude in the kitchen.
• Other duties as assigned according to manager’s instruction.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• No kitchen experience is required for the Cook I position, but is highly preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
• Maintain consistency and quality of similar tasks throughout an 8-hour shift.
• Maintain awareness of your surroundings at all times.
• Ability to work efficiently without supervision when necessary.
• Must provide own, approved, non-slip footwear.
• Available to work weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Use full range of body motion: bend, twist, kneel, push, pull and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Stand and walk for 8+ hours.
• Navigate stairs throughout your shift.
• Withstand high altitude conditions at all times.
• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily - reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• You will work almost 100% of the time in a kitchen in a high-altitude environment.
• Some outside work in a cold and snowy environment is possible on any given day.
• Most work is performed in a highly trafficked area while working closely with other kitchen employees.
• Riding a chairlift may be required for certain work locations.
• Use of utensils such as knives, cooking devices such as fryers or cleaning tools such as mops, is frequent.

Cook I - IV Staging Program:

• Cooks at A-Basin are eligible for a staging program that starts when hired and continues into employment.
• Cook I: Pay Range: $20.50 - $22.50/hr See requirements above
• Cook II: Pay Range: $21.50 – $25.75/hr Ability to fulfill all Cook 1 requirements in addition to the following: Has at least 6 months of Line Cook Experience. Lead a station and ensure food quality Mentor Cook I teammates Rotate and store supplies safely Assist with special events and team support
• Cook III: Pay Range: $22.00 – $27.50/hr Ability to fulfill all Cook 2 requirements in addition to the following: Has at least 1 year of Line Cook Experience. Work in dine-in restaurants with advanced cooking techniques Demonstrate expert knife skills and equipment knowledge Stay current on modern culinary trends
• Cook IV: Pay Range: $22.75 – $30.75/hr Ability to fulfill all Cook 3 requirements in addition to the following: Has at least 2 years of Line Cook Experience. Collaborate with chefs to develop SOPs and prep lists Cover multiple stations and support team flexibility Help lead the kitchen with operational excellence
