Who we are:
With nearly 65 years of service, DDI provides a full continuum of care -- from early intervention to residential, day habilitation, and vocational programs -- for over 1,600 children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. DDI is driven by a dedicated staff and a belief in every individual's potential.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare meals, cook, shop, and plan menus in coordination with the Nutritionist.
- Follow all menus and make substitutions according to exchange lists, adhering to dietary restrictions such as gluten-free, halal, kosher, and individual meal needs.
- Prepare ingredients for cooking, including chopping, peeling, and cutting meat.
- Cook using various methods and utensils, including grills and ovens.
- Measure ingredients accurately as per recipes.
- Maintain accurate food inventories and proper storage of unused food.
- Report maintenance needs or hazardous conditions to the manager or maintenance personnel.
- Follow OPWDD regulations regarding food safety and kitchen cleanliness.
- Meet with the nutritionist to develop appropriate dietary menus for residents.
- Assist in scheduling and planning parties for special occasions.
- Answer calls courteously and professionally, taking appropriate messages.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- At least one year of proven experience as a cook.
- Ability to work well with staff and individuals supported.
- Capability to cook following menus and guidelines.
- Physical ability to lift and carry at least 25 lbs., and perform bending, twisting, and reaching tasks.
