Job Summary

The Cook role is responsible for the preparation of all meals related to both hot and cold items, including desserts, for patient services, cafeteria, Pink Tea Room, catering, and doctor lounges. Patient hot meals are prepared under the “cook to order” room service delivery system. The Cook must ensure all entrees are heated to proper temperatures within 20 minutes and maintain sanitation of equipment and work areas according to Health Department codes. There is no access to patient health information.

Requirements

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Must possess full body motion to pass basic FIT test, including standing, bending, stooping, sitting for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Stand and walk most of the day
  • Ability to withstand heat and temperature changes in refrigerated or freezer areas

Job-Specific Standards

The performance level is measured by customer feedback, documentation, and observation. Responsibilities include following meal delivery and utility guidelines, delivering trays courteously, restocking supplies, maintaining sanitation, setting up dish machines, checking trays, ensuring proper stocking, cleaning food areas, assisting with restocking, reporting hazards, and performing other duties as assigned.
