Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of your position is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, following our established policies and procedures, to ensure quality food service at all times.
Delegation of Authority
As Cook, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your duties.
Education
Must possess, at minimum, an 8th-grade education.
Experience
One (1) year food experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, nursing care facility, or related medical facility is preferred but not necessary.
Job Functions
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Review menus prior to food preparation.
- Inspect special diet trays to ensure correct diets are served.
- Complete necessary forms, reports, and submit to the Director of Food Services.
- Coordinate food service with other departments.
- Work with the facility’s dietitian and implement recommended changes.
- Follow all food procedures according to policies.
- Assist in standardizing work methods.
- Assume authority, responsibility, and accountability as Cook.
- Maintain and file menus as per policies.
- Establish food service production lines to ensure timely meal preparation.
- Process diet changes and new diets from Nursing Services.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident/facility information and report any security breaches.
- Develop good working relationships with staff and other departments.
- Create a positive, calm environment in the department.
- Report occupational exposures and incidents as required.
- Log off computer workstations per policy.

- Ability to cook a variety of foods in large quantities.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.

- Ability to interact tactfully with personnel, residents, families, visitors, and agencies.

- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and sanitation standards.
