Job summary

San Joaquin Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bakersfield, CA is hiring a Cook to join the Dietary Services team. The role focuses on preparing nutritious meals that meet physician-ordered diets and therapeutic guidelines, while maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation.

You will work under the Dietary Supervisor and collaborate with nursing staff to ensure timely service, proper portioning, and resident dining satisfaction.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum one year of cooking experience in a hospital, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or long-term care facility preferred.
• ServSafe Certification required or ability to obtain and maintain certification.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and infection control practices.
• Ability to read and follow recipes and therapeutic diet instructions.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare nutritious, appetizing meals according to approved menus and standardized recipes.
• Cook a variety of foods in large quantities while maintaining quality and consistency.
• Follow portion control guidelines and therapeutic diet requirements.
• Record and monitor food temperatures to ensure food safety compliance.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation area.
• Assist with meal service and resident dining experience.
• Support sanitation schedules and kitchen operations in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.
