Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare is seeking a Dietary Cook in Staunton, VA. The role covers day-to-day meal prep for residents and staff, following the menu plan and ensuring safe, tasty service in a 24/7 facility.

Responsibilities include meal preparation, proper food handling, setup of service lines, and daily kitchen maintenance while complying with health codes. Prior hospital/school cafeteria experience is helpful.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age at time of hire.
• Pre-hire drug screen and background checks required.
• Must meet all training requirements.
• Must possess physical stamina to stand long shifts and lift up to 35 pounds.
• Prior cooking experience required; hospital/school cafeteria experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meals per menu and ensures proper portioning and serving.
• Handles foods safely to prevent contamination and reduce costs.
• Sets up service line and ensures condiments and garnishes accompany foods.
• Assists in prep for the next day’s menu.
• Maintains stock rooms, coolers, freezers, and labeled foods.
• Keeps kitchen clean and adheres to health department codes.
• Minimizes food waste via proper storage and recycling methods.
• Operates kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, steamer, fryer, grill, mixer, dishwasher, microwave.

• Facility is open 24/7/365
• Required to work 1 to 2 weekends per month

Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare is a residential treatment facility that serves adolescent males (ages 12-17) with intellectual disabilities, psychiatric disorders, and behavioral problems. As part of the Staunton, Virginia community for more than 18 years, Liberty Point has provided treatment, education, rehabilitation, recreation, and cultural exposure through community outings, while also providing a safe environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Cook will prepare healthy and appealing food for residents, staff, and guests, while providing Service Excellence. Must be able to follow the menu plan.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepares meals in accordance with the menu and ensures proper preparation, portioning, and serving of foods in a safe and sanitary manner
• Assumes responsibility for proper food handling and utilization of all foods to prevent contamination, increase quality and reduce cost
• Sets up food service line and workstations with the needed condiments and ensures all required condiments and garnishes are served with the appropriate foods
• Assists in prep for the following day’s menu
• Keeps stock room, coolers, freezers, walk-ins and all hot boxes clean. Ensures that all foods are properly labeled, dated and stored appropriately
• Maintains kitchen cleanliness and proper food preparation according to state and local health department code requirements and departmental procedures
• Keeps food waste to a minimum by utilizing food storage and food recycling techniques and procedures
• Prefer knowledge of equipment usage including (not an all-inclusive list): stoves, ovens, steamer, fryer, grill, electric mixer, dish washing machines, microwave, food charts

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire
• Must complete and pass a pre-hire drug screen & pre-hire background checks
• Must be able to meet all training requirements
• Must possess physical stamina to stand the majority of shift and to lift and move equipment and supplies
• Physical demands require dexterity, good vision, ability to walk, stoop, bend and be able to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally
• Previous cooking experience required
• Previous hospital/school cafeteria experience is helpfulMust reflect behavior, attitude, and appearance appropriate to the position and be supportive of the facility and division philosophy, goals, and objectives

EDUCATION

Pay is Hourly (bi-weekly) and is commensurate with education and experience.
