Job summary

Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is seeking a Cook for the Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled (MSSD) in Cook, Missouri. The role involves preparing school lunch menus, ordering supplies, and creating meals that meet nutritional guidelines.

  • Order food supplies following MSSD procedures.

  • Perform kitchen clean-up duties.
  • Follow health standards of local Department of Health.
  • Complete required reports on or before deadlines.
  • Demonstrate safe food handling around students and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and parent information.
  • Maintain CPR certification to BLS standards.
  • Participate in staff development to keep cooking skills current.
  • Follow training plans for individual students.

Salary: $17.50 an Hour

Please note: The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed salary range listed above.

What You’ll Do
  • Prepare school lunch menus according to the rules and regulations developed by the Food Section of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
  • Order food supplies following MSSD purchasing procedures.
  • Create and prepare appealing meals utilizing established nutritional guidelines.
  • Prepare and serve food including special diets as ordered by physicians for particular students.
  • Perform kitchen clean-up duties.
  • Follow required health standards of local Department of Health.
  • Accurately complete required reports on or before established deadlines.
  • Demonstrate effective safety skills with students, equipment, environment, etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality of parent, student and personally identifiable information.
  • Maintain CPR certification at the level determined by the American Heart Association or Red Cross as Basic Life Support Health Care Providers.
  • Participate in staff development as necessary to keep cooking skills and knowledge of food service updated and current.
  • Follow food service skills development training plans for individual students.
All You Need For Success
  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years' experience in food preparation is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.

(Other qualifications and experience, which in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education meet the requirements of the position, may be accepted in lieu of the above.)
