Purpose:
The Cook-Baker assists the Executive Chef and Sous Chef in planning and preparing baked goods that meet resident preferences and dietary needs. Responsibilities include baking fresh breads and desserts daily, managing inventory, and helping standardize recipes. The role ensures timely, visually appealing service while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety. It also supports catering functions and may supervise staff in the absence of senior kitchen leaders.
Work closely with the Executive Chef/ Sous Chef to coordinate menus, plan breads and desserts based on Resident preferences and dietary restrictions. Estimate the quantities of food supplies needed for menu items. Assist in re-ordering stock to meet menu needs.
Offer seasonal and holiday themed baked items to enhance the dining experience. Assist in standardization of recipes to meet menu needs. Prevent waste and use leftovers in an innovative way. Assist in maintaining portion control of food served.
Ensure the dessert items are decorated, plated and serve in a visually appealing manner. Coordinate with the culinary team to ensure timely meal service.
Label, date and store leftovers and ingredients used during and after food preparation.
Keep all ovens and cooking equipment clean and in good repairs and keep all cooking areas neat, clean and orderly. If assigned to the late shift, responsible for ensuring that the kitchen is properly closed down at the end of the business day.
Provide assistance and suggestions for catering functions within the Community and Health Care Center. Respond to Resident input and suggestions.
Comply with all sanitary codes imposed by government agencies upon our facility. Take and record all food and fridge temperature daily.
Supervise staff in the absence of Executive Chef or Sous Chef and Lead Cook.
Attend all required in-services and trainings.
Adhere to attendance protocol. Report to work on time as scheduled. Completes required training and attends staff meetings.
Project a professional appearance and a willing, positive and courteous expression in performing tasks. Cooperates with fellow workers, supervisors, residents, visitors, etc. in performing tasks.
Ensure compliance with all federal and state rules and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Required Qualification:
High School Diploma/GED required.
Two (2) years prior cook experience in a restaurant, hospital or extended care facility with an emphasis on scratch baking/decorating required.
Must obtain a professional Food Handler Certification within 90 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates Degree preferred.
