Job summary

Covenant House Texas is seeking a skilled Cook to join our Food Services team in Houston. You will prepare meals to recipes and standards, maintain clean stations, and ensure safe, quality food service for residents.

The role requires 2+ years of cooking in a high-volume or institutional setting, strong knife skills, and the ability to manage time and portions under pressure. Certification in Food Handling is preferred, with an Afternoons/Evenings shift and varied schedule.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of cooking experience in a high-volume or institutional setting.
• Ability to follow recipes, production plans and safety standards.
• Strong knife skills and understanding of basic cooking techniques.
• Ability to work efficiently and maintain quality under time constraints.
• Food Handler Certification.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook menu items according to standardized recipes and production sheets.
• Set up, maintain and break down assigned stations.
• Ensure proper portioning, presentation and temperature control.
• Assist with receiving, labeling and storing food products.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas throughout the shift.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures.
• Communicate product shortages, equipment issues, or resident concerns to the Chef/Manager.
• Support batch cooking and timely service throughout their shift.
• Assist with training new team members as needed.
• Work collaboratively with Stewards to maintain an efficient workflow.
• Serve the youth with a spirit of warm hospitality.
