Cook - 7a-7p - FT 3.5 days/week in Retirement Community

Reports to: Director of Service, Director of Culinary, or Director of Food Service

Hours: 7a - 7p; will be required to work every other weekend

Schedule: Three 12-hour days and one 4-hour day per week, totaling 40 hours

Position Summary:

Responsible for working with the Senior Director of Food Service to develop menus for The Hearth, assist in supervising food service staff, follow menus and recipes to cook all meals, prepare food for parties and special occasions, and adhere to health department regulations. The Line Cook must exercise creativity to ensure food is delicious, appetizing, and visually appealing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize all tools and ingredients needed for meal preparation according to recipes and menus.
  • Prepare food in a restaurant-style environment, including onsite and offsite catering.
  • Ensure food presentation is of high quality using fresh herbs, sauces, fruits, and vegetables.
  • Clean all equipment used in meal preparation.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen following schedules and Food Safety Policies by the North Carolina Health Department.
  • Properly store all food and supplies according to standards.
  • Report resident concerns that cannot be handled by the Cook to FSD/AFSD.
  • Respond to residents, families, visitors, and co-workers in a kind, polite, and professional manner.
  • Protect confidential information regarding residents, families, and the organization.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2-5 years of culinary experience in a restaurant or country club setting
  • Culinary education required; culinary degree preferred
