Job summary

MiraVista Behavioral Health Center in Holyoke, MA is seeking a full-time cook to prepare meals for patients, staff, and visitors. The position runs 32 hours per week with 5AM–1:30PM or 10:30AM–7:00PM shifts under the supervision of the Food Service Manager.

Responsibilities include from-scratch cooking, following approved recipes and diet item preparation, maintaining safety and sanitation standards, and supervising the Food Service Department in the manager’s absence.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Two (2) years training or experience in large scale commercial or institutional food preparation
• Working knowledge of ovens, mixers, and other kitchen equipment
• Prefer completion of a Certified/Food Service Sanitation Course
• Must be able to read and write and make simple calculations and follow written and oral instructions
• Must know the proper methods and cooking temperatures for best utilization and yield of meats and other foods

• Prepare and cook regular and modified diet items
• Ensure top quality, eye-appealing products are produced
• Maintain productivity to meet hot food needs per meal schedules
• Clean and sanitize cooking areas and equipment
• Follow safe food handling procedures and maintain proper storage to prevent cross contamination
• Organize food prep, cooking, and refrigerated storage areas
• Assist in supervision in the absence of the Food Service Manager

Under the supervision of the Food Service Manager, the cook is responsible for the preparation of food for patients, employees, and guests. Also responsible for the general supervision of the Food Service Department in the absence of the Food Service Manager.

Prepare and cook hot/cold food items using from scratch cooking methods, mixes and/or other convenience items, and ready to cook products.

Utilize approved recipes and instructions to prepare and cook regular (house) and a variety of modified diet items.

Assure that top quality, properly prepared and cooked, eye appealing products are always produced.

Maintain productivity in order to meet department hot food needs as required by meal period schedules.

Clean and sanitize all cooking areas and equipment as instructed and as needed to meet department sanitation requirements.

Always use safe food handling procedures to ensure food wholesomeness including maintaining safe temperatures and maintaining proper food storage to ensure that cross contamination doesn’t result.

Maintain proper organization of all food prep, cooking, and refrigerated storage areas to insure optimal effectiveness of work processes.

Successful candidates will have:

High School Diploma or GED preferred
