Job summary

John Knox Village of Central Florida, Inc. in Orange City, FL seeks a Cook 1 to join the pantry, fry and station teams. You will prepare all food items, assist with expediting during service, and ensure quality and timely execution of dishes.

Applicants must pass Level 2 background screening, read, write, and communicate in English, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The role supports a non-profit retirement community with strong team values and growth opportunities.

Job description

Job Summary: Responsible for the daily preparation of food items in the pantry, fry and/or stations or other areas of the kitchen. Responsible for Cook 1 employees in expediting various job assignments as needed during the service and preparation of all food items.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Sets up station according to restaurant guidelines.
  • Prepares all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner.
  • Follows recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the restaurant.
  • Restocks all items as needed throughout shift.
  • Cleans and maintains station in practicing good safety, sanitation, organizational skills.
  • Assists with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all storage areas.
  • Ensure food quality and presentation meet established high standards through broad knowledge of cooking techniques, stock and soup preparation and ability to make all five mother sauces.

Educational, Physical, and Other Requirements:

  • Employee should have a broad knowledge of cooking techniques, stock and soup preparation and ability to make all five mother sauces.
  • Has understanding and knowledge to properly use and maintain all kitchen equipment.
  • Employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. The individual must be able to transport and lift up to 50 pounds on occasion and up to 35 pounds regularly.
  • Must have good hand, arm and finger dexterity.
  • Repetitive motion is often required in the performance of daily tasks.
  • Employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
