Job summary

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Woodward Resource Center, is seeking a Cook 1 to join our team. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with a variable schedule between 6:00 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., including weekends, and opportunities for advancement.

You will prepare meals for up to 500 residents, follow recipes, adapt textures for dysphagia, monitor temperatures, maintain records, and help keep the kitchen clean and sanitary while supporting an interdisciplinary care team.

Qualifications

• Experience equivalent to one year of full-time quantity food production.
• Completion of a military, vocational, or community college program in commercial cooking.
• Background check required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals for up to 500 individuals following recipes and using commercial equipment.
• Adapt textures to meet dysphagia needs for safe eating.
• Monitor food temperatures and follow safe handling practices.
• Complete temperature logs and recipe feedback records.
• Serve meals with care and maintain a clean, sanitary kitchen.
• Support daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning tasks.
