Job summary

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is seeking a line cook with at least 1 year of restaurant cooking experience. A culinary certificate or technical school credential is preferred. You will interact with guests and co-workers, read orders, and maintain established standards in a busy kitchen.

This non-exempt role requires availability for nights, weekends, and holidays, with overtime as needed. Physical demands include standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs, in a historic, high-volume setting.

Founded in 1926, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is a private, not-for-profit educational, historic, and cultural institution that owns and operates one of the largest and best-known museum complexes in the world. Today, Colonial Williamsburg is the largest living history museum in the U.S. The Historic Area is the 301-acre restored colonial capital with 89 original buildings and 525 buildings reconstructed to how they appeared in the 18th century through extensive archaeological, architectural, and documentary research. The Historic Area is staffed by highly trained, historically dressed interpreters and expert tradespeople who bring the 18th century to life. The Foundation also owns and operates two world-class museums, the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum, and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, The Bob and Marion Wilson Teacher Institute,and a renowned research library, the John D Rockefeller Jr Library.

Main Duties

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Certificate in Culinary Arts from a technical school.
• At least one year restaurant cooking experience (formal culinary training will substitute for 1 year work experience on an equal time basis).
• Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays ranging from 5 a.m. to midnight
• Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a current Williamsburg James City County food handler’s card; applicants with an active food handler's card should be prepared to present it during the interview process.
• Ability to: (1) interact withguests and co-workers in a professional manner; (2) read food orders and production charts; (3) maintain standards listed below

This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
