Job summary

DuPage County is seeking a Cook to join the Care Center team in Wheaton, IL. Multiple positions are available with shifts 5:00am–1:00pm and 11:00am–7:00pm, including every other weekend and rotating holidays.

Eligible for a comprehensive benefits package and paid holidays, vacation, sick and personal days. Responsibilities include preparing diverse meals, supervising dining staff, assisting with orders, and training new employees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of cook experience in a moderately large institutional setting or as a prep-cook in a similar setting.
• Sanitation Certificate preferred or obtainable within 6 months of hire.
• Post-offer physical and pre-employment background check required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare a variety of dishes including meats, poultry, eggs, soups, vegetables, salads, sauces and baked goods using frying, roasting and baking methods.
• Provide guidance and direction to dining services staff; may supervise a shift.
• Assist with ordering of food, drinks and supplies when supervisor is absent.
• Train new employees on procedures and assist with catering deliveries to county buildings.

Responsibilities Include:

• Prepares a variety of dishes and meals including meats, poultry, eggs, soups, vegetables, salads, sauces and baked goods, using various methods such as frying, roasting and baking
• Provides guidance and direction to other dining services employees; may be assigned as supervisor to a shift of dining services employees
• Assists with food, drinks, and supplies ordering when supervisor is absent
• Shares knowledge and trains new employees on departmental procedures
• Helps customers with special requests or concerns.
• Keeps management informed of any concerns or incidents that occur throughout the shift and contacts management for assistance when necessary
• Assures food is kept at proper temperatures.
• Assures safe food handling
• Prepares special and therapeutic meals as directed
• Stores food stock as it is delivered
• Verifies and sign invoices upon food and supplies deliveries
• Rotates products on shelves
• Maintains and cleans cooking areas
• Maintains food storage areas
• Assists on the serving line
• Assists with delivering catering orders to county buildings.

Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience:

• Completion of a High school Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
• One(1) year of experience as a Cook in a moderately large institutional setting, or one (1) year of experience as a prep-cook at a moderately large institutional setting or at the Care Center

The preferred candidate will have a Sanitation Certificate or will be able to obtain one within 6 months of hire.

A post offer physical is required.

A pre‑employment background check is required.
