Job description

We are excited to share that we are hosting Open Interviews every Wednesday!

Join us for our upcoming event to explore the many new and exciting, in-demand careers with representatives from each department in one location.

When: Every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Location: 440 N Lynnhaven Road, VA Beach VA 23452

The Cook, under the direction of designated management and supervisors, will prepare, present, store, and dispatch all food products, specifically for Dining Room, Bistro, marketing and catering events, and resident tray service where required. Responsibilities include following menu specifications within time limits set by the Dining Services Director, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and maintaining sanitary and safe food handling standards.

Job Duties

  • Ensure all menu items are prepared and served according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain presentation standards for all menu items.
  • Prepare meals based on menus, nutritional programs, and individual plans.
  • Ensure meal quality in taste, presentation, and dietary requirements.
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards, including cleaning and proper storage.
  • Work efficiently and consistently to meet preparation deadlines.
  • Ensure each resident receives meals according to their dietary needs.
  • Prepare correct quantities to meet daily needs.
  • Utilize kitchen equipment properly during food preparation.
  • Stay productive and prepare for future needs.
  • Be flexible and volunteer for open shifts as needed.
  • Follow reporting procedures for accidents and incidents.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, including infection control and hazardous materials handling.
  • Order and receive departmental supplies timely to maintain inventory.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Serve food in proper portions and at correct temperatures.
  • Report policy infractions.
  • Arrive on time for scheduled shifts.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of cooking experience required.
  • Experience in the retirement home industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of food trends, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
  • Understanding of safe food handling methods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Flexible with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Team-oriented.
  • Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and email.
  • Attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
