The Neighborhood at Vestavia Hills is seeking Cooks to join their team!
All applicants report directly to the Food and Beverage Director.
Shift Details
Mon–Fri; Every other weekend required.
Purpose
The Cook is responsible for all food preparation to ensure that food meets or exceeds quality, quantity, and service schedule requirements and hospitality service standards for the community.
In the absence of the Lead Cook or Food and Beverage Director, the Cook manages all food production, ensures sanitary procedures, and complies with all federal, state, and local regulatory procedures regarding food production.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve meals, sanitation of food service areas, accurate record‑keeping, receiving, rotating and inventory of products, and regulatory compliance.
- Adhere to posted menus and prepare food items using approved Phoenix standardized recipes in a timely manner.
- Follow production sheets and instructions.
- Prepare special dietary needs and texture‑modified food as directed.
- Organize work to meet production and service requirements.
- Monitor food items to ensure minimum guidelines for temperature, taste, and quality are upheld.
- Taste and adjust food to determine quality or necessary adjustments.
- Maintain sanitary conditions to ensure safety and compliance with regulations; clean work areas.
- Follow local, state, and federal policies regarding food handling.
- Maintain standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and health.
- Operate dish machine(s) according to Food Safety Standards.
- Operate dishwashing to properly wash and sanitize all dishes, china, silverware, glassware, utensils, and cookware.
Record Keeping / Resident Services
- Record and monitor service standards and regulatory compliance.
- Protect confidentiality of resident information.
- Review Resident Diet Book, confidential Diet Board / Indicator, Data Card or Chart.
- Manually record equipment, refrigerator, freezer, cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures.
- Record food production quantities and taste evaluation sheets.
- Rotate menus and production sheets.
Requirements
Education / Experience / Licensure – Certification
- High School Diploma / GED required.
- Culinary apprenticeship or training preferred.
- One (1) year job‑related experience in food preparation, full‑line menu items, and therapeutic diets.
- Maintain a current SERV Safe certificate or be able to participate in training to become certified.
