Job summary

Tufts Medical Center, Boston is seeking a full-time cook to prepare meals for staff and visitors following hospital standards for accuracy, quantity, appearance and quality. You will portion, cook and present a variety of hot and cold foods across patient, retail and catering areas, with shifts including 6am-2:30pm and 12pm-8:30pm.

The role requires at least one year in food service; preferred candidates may have apprenticeship or training or a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• 1 year of related experience in a food services environment or restaurant.
• Training in an apprenticeship program, vocation, or cooking school preferred.
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow the menu, prepare and cook food for regular and modified diets per recipes and production sheets.
• Apply HACCP food safety practices and infection-control measures; use hairnet, gloves, apron as required.
• Review menus and prepare items that can be made in advance and stored properly.
• Follow recipes for soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other items for service.
• Prepare foods using kitchen equipment to measure, mix, wash, cut and trim ingredients.

Under general supervision, this position prepares meals for staff and visitors using the Hospital's standards of accuracy, quantity, appearance and quality. This position is responsible to accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Special/Catered Events) in all areas of food production (Patient, Retail and Catering).

Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week) with variable shifts 6am-2:30pm & 12pm-8:30p; weekend availability preferred Location: TMC: 800 Washington St Boston

Minimum Qualifications

• 1. One (1) year of related experience in a food services environment or restaurant.

• 1. Training in an apprenticeship program, vocation, or cooking school.
• 2. High School diploma or equivalent.

Duties and Responsibilities

• 1. Followings the menu prepares and cooks food for all regular and modified diet meals assuring quantity, quality and timeliness of the meals according to designated recipes and daily production sheets.
• 2. Practices accepted HACCP food a production and food handling principles. Utilizes hairnet, gloves, apron, etc. to optimize infection control and cleanliness per regulations.
• 3. Reviews menus and prepares any food items that can be prepared in advance and stores appropriately.
• 4. Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other food items for consumption in eating establishments.
• 5. Prepares foods by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry or fish for culinary use.

Pay Range: $18.81 - $23.51 based on full-time equivalent
