Merriam Gardens Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center is seeking a Cook to prepare and serve meals for residents, ensuring safety and quality in line with state and federal regulations. The role supports nutritional care by following menus, recipes, and production guides, and by coordinating with supervisors and dietitians as needed.

The position emphasizes timely meal preparation, proper food handling, and adherence to policy, while offering advancement opportunities within the healthcare food

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
• Long-term care facility experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes; refers to supervisor or dietitian the need for menu changes.
• Reviews menus, resident census information, production guides and pre-prep sheets to determine type and quantities of food to be prepared.
• Prepares food according to safe food handling guidelines per company policy and procedure and state and federal codes and regulations
• Assists with food ordering, storage and preparation as designated by the supervisor; Prepares food in a timely manner to preserve food quality and serve meal on time.
• Maintains standards for food preparation and quality of food service; uses nutritionally equivalent substitutes when required; Follows standardized recipes.

Job description

The cook will be responsible for preparing and serving meals according to the menu, monitoring methods of food handling, preparation, meal service, and equipment cleaning. Safely and efficiently provides nutritionally appropriate food to residents for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing their overall health. Ensures the provision of quality food service and nutrition care in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations.
