Job summary

The Goodman Group is hiring a Cook to prepare cold items, bakery and salad foods and to support overall kitchen operations. The role emphasizes preparing meals per menus, serving residents, and maintaining sanitary, safe food-handling practices.

Applicants should have knowledge of large-quantity cooking, dietary compatibility, and able to work with residents who are elderly or otherwise require special consideration. Prior kitchen experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for this position.
  • Six months experience in a commercial kitchen preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in cooking large quantities of food with little to no direction on how to cook the recipes.
  • Knowledgeable of culinary practices, procedures, and food safety.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals following menus and recipes ensuring palatability and appetizing appearance.
  • Inspect diet trays and serve food with proper portion control.
  • Prepare cold items, bakery and salad foods.
  • Cook hot foods as directed and adhere to food safety standards.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas and follow sanitary regulations.
  • Assist with inventory and replenishment of food and supplies.
  • Support with special meals, events and parties.

Job description

The Cook plays an integral role in the success of our team, our community and creating a place our residents are proud to call home. The primary purpose of this position is to prepare cold food, bakery and salad items.

Essential Job Functions
  • Prepare meals that follow the menus and recipes. Food must be taste and temperature palatable and appetizing in appearance.
  • Inspect special diet trays to ensure that the correct diet is served to the residents. Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures. Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus. Prepare food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diet orders.
  • Prepare cold item foods, bakery and salad items.
  • Cook hot foods as directed by Supervisor(s). Ensure culinary practices, procedures and food safety are followed.
  • Adhere to food service timelines.
  • Prepare and serve only authorized food substitutions to residents who refuse daily menu food options.
  • Serve meals to residents and guests as needed.
  • Assist in food preparation for special meals, parties, and events.
  • Prepare food in accordance with sanitary regulations and Food ServSafe regulations.
  • Ensure work areas are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Assist with food prep for the upcoming meal and day.
  • Assist with the inventory and replenishment process for food and supplies.
  • Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.
  • Store in-coming food and supplies as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Critical Skills
  • Be able to make independent decisions and follow instructions.
  • Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
  • Capable of working with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within the facility.
  • Communicate in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, team members, residents, and families.
Education and Experience
  • Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for this position.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have direct reports or supervisory requirements.
