Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Cook.

In this role, the successful candidate Assists Chef in preparation, seasoning, cooking and plating of food served to patients, employees, cafeteria and catered events, using standardized recipes

Job Responsibilities:

  • Other duties assigned my management and/or deemed past practice.
  • Reviews menus and work orders to determine type and quantities of food to be prepared for patients, cafeteria and catered functions.
  • Plans cooking schedules in order for food to be ready at specified times.
  • Confers with Production Manager/Executive Chef regarding modified diet prep and use of leftovers.
  • Procures food from refrigerator, freezer or other storage areas. Trims/ Cuts meat or fowl using knives.
  • Washes, trims, seasons, cooks, measures and mixes food according to recipes and Production Manger's instructions.
  • Uses a variety of kitchen utensils & equipment such as mixers, grinders etc, appropriately and safely.
  • Bakes, roasts, broils & steams meat, fish, vegetables & other food.
  • Adjusts heat control & timers on stoves, ovens, steam kettles & grills according to instructions.
  • Carves portions of meat, fish or fowl for individual servings
  • Cooks products according to standardized recipes, controls oven temperature to produce desirable results.
  • Assists in plating and lidding portioned foods.
  • Maintains strict sanitary standards, according to departmental policy and procedures (e.g. handling food appropriately, maintaining temperatures, etc.) cleaning work stations, etc.
  • Follows HACCP methods for storing, cooking, preparing and cooling potentially hazardous foods. Includes filling out appropriate temperature logs.
  • Fills our appropriate production sheets.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, QI Program, safety, environmental & Infection Control Standards
  • Customer Service: respectful, flexibility, knowledge, confident, professional, pleasant, attitude, patience & helpfulness.
  • Accepts directives from supervisor willingly

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School graduate or equivalent from a formal technical school specializing in hotel or institutional cooking.
3 + years experience.
ility to read and write fluent English. Ability to follow oral & written directions.

Preferred Qualifications:
ServSafe Certification preferred. NY State Food Protection license preferred

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $50,143.59 - $55,294.61 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
