Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health in New London is seeking a Food Service Worker responsible for preparing, seasoning and cooking meats, fish, vegetables and other items for patients, staff and visitors in a hospital setting. You will follow recipes and production directions.

You will operate kitchen equipment, maintain sanitation, recordkeeping, and assist with inventory and quality standards while supporting a collaborative food service team.

Qualifications

  • Experience in large-scale food preparation.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English; basic math skills.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans And Organizes Resources To Achieve Effective Nutritional Care.
  • Prepares, Seasons And Cooks Foods Under The Direction Of The Production Manager And/Or First Cook.
  • Measures And Mixes Ingredients According To Recipes.
  • Uses A Variety Of Kitchen Utensils And Equipment Including Grinders, Slicers, Mixers, And Blenders.
  • Ensures That All Foods Prepared Meet Existing Standards For Quality, Freshness, Taste And Appearance.
  • Ensures That Required Sanitary Levels Are Maintained Throughout The Food Preparation Process.
  • Alerts Supervisor To Problems And Needs Concerning Equipment And Food Supplies. Detects And Reports Spoiled Or Unattractive Food, Defective Supplies/Equipment Or Unusual Conditions.
  • Ensures That All Equipment And Utensils And Work Areas, Are Inspected And Maintained For Cleanliness, Sanitation And Proper Operation.
  • Ensures That Required Sanitary Levels Are Maintained Throughout The Food Preparation Process.
  • Maintains Department Records, Reports And Files As Required According To Established Policies, Procedures And Schedules.
  • Meets Performance Expectations For Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, And Staff And Self Development As Outlined In Performance Review.
  • Performs Other Duties As Assigned Or Directed To Ensure Smooth Operation Of The Department/Unit.
