Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a hospital kitchen cook to prepare and season foods for patients, staff and visitors under direction of the Production Manager. The role requires adherence to quality, freshness and taste standards, and strict sanitary practices.

You will handle a variety of utensils and equipment, measure ingredients and ensure equipment and areas are clean. Strong teamwork and basic math skills are essential in this fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Sufficient Previous Experience In Large Scale Food Preparation.
  • Able To Read, Write And Speak English; Able To Perform Simple Mathematical Calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans And Organizes Resources To Achieve Effective Nutritional Care.
  • Prepares, Seasons And Cooks Foods Under The Direction Of The Production Manager And/Or First Cook.
  • Measures And Mixes Ingredients According To Recipes.
  • Uses A Variety Of Kitchen Utensils And Equipment Including Grinders, Slicers, Mixers, And Blenders.
  • Ensures That All Foods Prepared Meet Existing Standards For Quality, Freshness, Taste And Appearance.
  • Ensures That Required Sanitary Levels Are Maintained Throughout The Food Preparation Process.
  • Alerts Supervisor To Problems And Needs Concerning Equipment And Food Supplies. Detects And Reports Spoiled Or Unattractive Food, Defective Supplies/Equipment Or Unusual Conditions.
  • Ensures That All Equipment And Utensils And Work Areas, Are Inspected And Maintained For Cleanliness, Sanitation And Proper Operation.
  • Ensures That Required Sanitary Levels Are Maintained Throughout The Food Preparation Process.
  • Maintains Department Records, Reports And Files As Required According To Established Policies, Procedures And Schedules.
  • Meets Performance Expectations For Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, And Staff And Self Development As Outlined In Performance Review.
  • Performs Other Duties As Assigned Or Directed To Ensure Smooth Operation Of The Department/Unit.
