Position Summary
The Cook plans, prepares, and cooks various food items to ensure the highest quality and experience for guests in the restaurant, carryout, and delivery. They ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and food storage procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes, using kitchen utensils and equipment to prepare salads, sauces, dough, cheeses, pizza crust, vegetables, sandwiches, and casseroles.
- Follow measurement charts to ensure consistent, quality products.
- Bake, fry, microwave main dishes, and heat other food items.
- Test cooking by viewing, smelling, piercing with a fork, and using a thermometer to ensure proper cooking. Guide other kitchen staff during food preparation.
- Wash, peel, cut, dice, and shred vegetables and fruits for preparation.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food prep areas, including washing and sanitizing containers and utensils, cleaning surfaces, and cleaning kitchen equipment.
- Monitor thermostat controls to regulate temperatures of ovens, steam kettles, and other equipment; report malfunctions.
- Record product usage and waste.
- Operate dishwasher.
- Deliver clean plates, utensils, and glasses to service areas.
Skills And Experience
- Ability to learn food safety procedures, including proper ingredient temperatures.
- Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate on orders.
- Interpersonal skills for interaction with team and management.
- Follow ingredient measurements for quality.
- Follow directions and safety requirements.
- No prior experience required.
Licenses/Certificates
- May require a Food Handler’s permit, Foodservice Sanitation Certification, or other permits/licenses depending on local laws.
Physical Demands
- Ability to exert force up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently; work mostly standing, with frequent walking and occasional sitting.
- Work involves stamina for long shifts (8-12 hours), including split shifts.
- Reaching, climbing, stooping, handling, and other physical activities are occasionally required.
- Requires reliable attendance and a sense of taste for food quality assessment.
Working Conditions
- Primarily indoor environment with exposure to heat, humidity, and water.
- Use of various kitchen equipment such as ovens, mixers, fryers, and microwaves.
