Job summary

The Salvation Army in Louisville, KY is seeking a part-time Cook for weekend shifts from 10am to 6pm, on-site at the KT-Louisville Area Command. The role involves planning, preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious meals and snacks according to guidelines, with emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and proper storage/invoicing procedures.

Qualified candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience cooking for large groups.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• And one year of experience cooking food for large groups.
• Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Plans, prepares, cooks, and serves nutritious meals and snacks per established guidelines and schedules.
• Ensures all meals are prepared and served safely and presentably.
• Maintains a high degree of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room, ensures that all meals are prepared safely, and ensures that all kitchen personnel practice proper personal hygiene.
• Maintains proper supply and orderliness of kitchen stock inventory to meet the kitchen's needs; orders, receives, and processes food purchases; verifies that invoices are accurate and submits them for further processing.
• The Cook is considered an essential position and is expected to work in inclement weather or catastrophic conditions and may have to work holidays or be on call.
• Performs other related work as required.

This position is responsible for:

Plans, prepares, cooks, and serves nutritious meals and snacks per established guidelines and schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensures all meals are prepared and served safely and presentably.
• Maintains a high degree of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room, ensures that all meals are prepared safely, and ensures that all kitchen personnel practice proper personal hygiene.
• Maintains proper supply and orderliness of kitchen stock inventory to meet the kitchen's needs; orders, receives, and processes food purchases; verifies that invoices are accurate and submits them for further processing.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Work requires the ability to lift, carry, and push/pull moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by a combination of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to cook, taste, and smell food.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
