Cook (Food Services)

YMCA Camp Ihduhapi in Loretto, MN is seeking a short-term Cook with availability Sunday to Thursday through August. Prepare nutritious meals for our campers and staff with this fun role at the Y!

The salary range for this position starts at $16.50 - $20 hourly. We consider an individual's background and experience when determining salary; therefore, the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes various benefits and earned time off that depend on part-time or full-time status.

1. Job Summary:

The Cook prepares healthy and nutritious meals for participants, maintains health standards, and ensures adequate food supply levels. The incumbent may also provide work direction to kitchen staff and dishwashers as needed.

2. Essential Functions:
  • Prepares healthy and nutritious meals for participants and groups.
  • Participates in menu planning to meet nutritional and dietary needs.
  • Maintains clean and safe kitchen work areas, stockroom, freezer, refrigerator, dining room, dish room, and loading dock in accordance with Minnesota health regulations.
  • Assists with purchasing and inventory of food supplies.
  • Provides work direction to kitchen staff and dishwashers as needed.
  • Practices personal hygiene and cleanliness in food handling.
3. Relationships:

This position reports to the Food Service Manager, Executive Director, or Program Director depending on location. The incumbent interacts regularly with participants, the public, staff, and volunteers, and provides work direction to kitchen staff and dishwashers as needed.

4. Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum age of 18
  • At least one (1) year of experience in food preparation
  • Ability to obtain Food Safe Certification from the county Public Health Department
  • Completion of YMCA-provided First Aid and CPR certification upon hire
  • Knowledge of kitchen procedures and food handling/storage
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Desire to work with camp staff and youth

Preferred:

  • Education or training in nutrition
  • Dedication to YMCA's philosophy and mission
5. Work Conditions:
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely (knives, ovens, slicers, mixers, broilers, cleaning chemicals)
  • Standing for long periods
6. Additional Notes:
