Position Summary: The Cook will be responsible for preparing food at multiple stations, with cross-training expected to cover all areas. Responsibilities include quantity food production based on recipes, modifications for special diets, quality control, waste reduction, and timely preparation to ensure service needs are met. Food presentation and taste are also important.

Qualifications: Ability to read, write, perform basic math; two years of institutional or commercial cooking experience preferred; some lead cook experience desirable.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships; approach conflicts constructively; identify problems and participate in solutions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient, physician, employee, and visitor information; discuss only with appropriate personnel in private settings.
  • Perform duties safely, report hazards, and practice self-directed learning.
  • Behave in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea/Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.
  • Provide quality patient care considering age, development, and cultural needs; demonstrate competencies.
  • Identify safety, sanitation, and environmental issues and assist in resolving them.
  • Communicate effectively with all interactions.
  • Promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
  • Use food production equipment proficiently.
  • Understand departmental policies and procedures; complete orientation.
  • Attend food safety and sanitation courses.
  • Match cooking methods to food types; arrange food attractively; identify and resolve safety or sanitation issues; maintain workflow; collaborate with staff; report to work as scheduled; perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities: Ability to read, write, perform basic math; lift up to 30 pounds; stand, walk, lift, bend, squat, and twist frequently.
