Job summary

Jennings Center for Older Adults in Brecksville, OH is seeking a full-time Cook to join our Culinary Services team. The role emphasizes preparing meals in a health-care setting, following therapeutic diets, and maintaining sanitation and safety standards.

You will work under the Executive Chef, prepare items per menus, manage timelines, and collaborate with staff to deliver nutritious, appetizing meals to residents.

Qualifications

  • Experienced as a cook in health care desirable, preferably long-term care.
  • Completion of food service sanitation course or in-services desirable.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Understands and communicates job-related information and directions in English.

Responsibilities

  • Handle and prepare food according to menus and diets.
  • Prepare food items palatable and appetizing in appearance.
  • Perform food prep, production, cooking, cleaning and dishwashing tasks.
  • Follow oral and written directions and recipes.
  • Meet meal schedules and manage temperatures.
  • Maintain records for substitutes and temperatures.

Job Description

Reports to: Executive Chef

Hours available: 6:00am to 2:30pm or 10:30am - 6:30pm.

Essential Functions
  • Handle and prepare food.
  • Prepare food which is palatable and appetizing in appearance.
  • Performs all tasks relating to Culinary Services including food preparation, production, cooking, cleaning, washing dishes, pots, pans, etc.
  • Follow oral and written directions.
  • Follow written menus and recipes.
  • Understand therapeutic diets.
  • Prepare food items in accordance with therapeutic diets.
  • Responsible for avoiding food waste.
  • Assume responsibility for meeting meal schedules.
  • Responsible for use and care of food service equipment.
  • Work cooperatively with food service staff and other departments.
  • Attend in-service training programs for Culinary Services staff members.
  • Maintain required records for substitutes, food temperatures and cooler temperatures.
  • Relate to residents, families and other staff in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner.
  • Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
  • Assume responsibility of supervisor when the Chef Manager is not present.
  • Perform simple arithmetic and units of measurement conversions used in food preparation.
Other duties and responsibilities
  • Adhere to Resident Rights policies at all times.
  • Observe all facility safety policies and procedures.
  • Observe all infection control policies. Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
  • Follow and assume accountability for all policies and procedures contained in the Staff Handbook.
  • Plan work in an efficient manner and demonstrate dependability.
  • Support campus wide activities by offering ideas, participating on committees and attending staff and resident events.
  • Function as an active member of the team, supporting fellow team members and working effectively with other individuals and teams.
  • Understand and comply with the Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Know, understand and exemplify the mission and values of Jennings Center for Older Adults.

  • Perform all other related duties as directed by your supervisor and/or manager.
