Job summary

Sodexo is hiring a Cook in Blackburn to prepare and serve nutritious meals for residents and staff in an Approved Premises. You’ll work weekends, independently manage the kitchen, and ensure meals are plated and served on time while upholding strict hygiene standards.

The role emphasizes independent day‑to‑day kitchen ownership, high-quality meal preparation, and contributing to a safe, welcoming environment for residents and colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Previous professional cooking or catering experience is essential.
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook nutritious, high‑quality meals for residents and staff.
  • Manage the kitchen independently and ensure meals are ready and served on time.
  • Maintain high food hygiene standards in kitchen and dining areas.
  • Check stock levels and replenish ingredients as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to keep the service running smoothly.

  • 12 hours per week
  • Saturday and Sunday
  • 8:00am – 2:00pm
  • £12.91 per hour

What you'll do:

  • Keep the kitchen and dining areas clean and maintain high food hygiene standards.
  • Check stock levels and order or replenish ingredients and supplies when needed.
  • Work well with colleagues and communicate clearly to keep the service running smoothly.
  • Follow all health, safety and food hygiene procedures, including when working alone.
What you bring:
  • Previous experience in a professional cooking or catering role is essential.
  • Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen procedures.
  • Able to work independently, manage your time and prioritise tasks.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Reliable, self-motivated and confident working alone.
  • Positive and flexible, with the ability to work well with others and follow procedures.
