Job summary

Memorial Hospital Belleville and Memorial Hospital Shiloh are seeking a full-time Cook to join our Food & Nutrition team. You will prepare hot and cold foods for patient services, retail and catering, following standardized recipes, dietary restrictions and safety guidelines.

This role offers 40 hours per week with rotating weekends and holidays, benefits eligibility, and opportunities for growth within a Magnet-designated system.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required or preferred.
• Two years of kitchen or food service experience.
• ServSafe Certification is preferred or required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and cooks food items for patient services, retail and catering.
• Follows standardized recipes and uses appropriate cooking techniques.
• Maintains proper food safety, labeling and dating procedures.
• Keeps work areas and equipment sanitary and organized.
• Assists with cleaning and storage of food and supplies.

Overview

Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services plus critical and emergency care including Children’s at Memorial for pediatric emergency care. It provides patients a full complement of diagnostic and treatment services as well as heart and vascular care. Memorial, offering medical and surgical services plus critical care, is an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital by the Illinois Department of Public Health. In addition, Memorial Belleville recently was accredited by the American College of Radiology as a designated Lung Cancer Screening Center. Since 2008, it has been designated as a Magnet®-recognized organization for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Memorial Hospital Shiloh, a 94-bed, all-private suite hospital was recognized with Magnet status in 2018 and provides emergency care, labor & delivery, nursery, medical and surgical services plus critical care.

The Food & Nutrition Department is responsible for providing high quality nutrtion services to patients, staff and visitors on a daily basis. Services also include vending machines and meeting/special event catering.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Performs a variety of food service production activities such as pre-preparation and preparation of hot and cold foods for patient services, retail and catering operations following all dietary requirements. Properly handles and stores food per applicable regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Preps and prepares food items by cutting, chopping, slicing, dicing, pureeing, marinating, etc. This includes washing, peeling, cutting, seeding vegetables/fruits, along with weighing and measuring designated ingredients.
• Follows standardized recipes, producing food items by utilizing various cooking techniques such as sautéing, broiling, braising, blanching, baking, grilling, deep fat frying, and steaming using a variety of institutional equipment while meeting proper food quality and proper serving temperatures.
• Properly chills and stores foods in designated areas following all labeling, dating, food safety guidelines and rotation procedures as well as completing designated food safety quality control logs.
• Ensures compliance of special dietary requirements, nutritional restrictions, allergens, modified textures and other special dietary needs.
• Cleans kitchen equipment, appliances, and work areas to ensure conformance to the highest level of sanitation.
